About this ebook

Not your usual post-apocalyptic story.

In the near future, a chemical attack destroys the ozone layer, forcing survivors into the sprawling five-tier underground city of Orion.

For Kaz Winters, the move marks deep change. Within a week, her father, a lab technician, vanishes. Soon after, she and her mother are relocated to the city's lowest level.

Life at the bottom is brutal in a city where the poor are barely tolerated. But it's not just inequality Kaz must face. A deadly radiation-borne disease called the Scourge spreads, claiming victims indiscriminately. When her mother falls ill, a desperate Kaz must steal the medicine to save her.

Her luck changes when she stumbles upon her father's journal, which hints at a potential cure for the Scourge. However, the key to it lies beyond the tightly controlled world of Orion.

The choice for Kaz is brutally simple. Do nothing or venture to the surface—a place no one is meant to survive.

A lot of these types of PA books are based on a similar premise, but I was really happy to read this and find some great, original ideas. Very refreshing! The characters were captivating, well rounded, and they just made sense. They altered during the book after certain things had happened to them, and it was quite realistic. The story was also nice and twisty (hooray!) with plenty of action. I found it fun to try and visualise the underground city, and think what it would be like to live there.
